About Portview
Established in 1984 Portview Belfast was founded by leading business figures across Belfast.
How it began
Origin
The Belfast Development Agency explored several sites throughout the city that had the potential to transform industrial sites into new innovative ways of working. Successfully obtaining a small government grant at the time; the former Mill was purchased, and several floors of the old mill were converted for workshop and studio space.
Until the early 2000s; primarily home to industrial uses; the site has pivoted and now home to over 50+ creative SME's.
Portview Today
Today, we operate a social enterprise model, recognising the need for affordable business space within the area and committed to growing the social resilient economy within our portfolio. As a non-profit we invest our modest income into supporting the restoration of the buildings and development of the site for future opportunities.
Our parent company is the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre (B.U.R.C), a Belfast based charity which focuses on providing training and employment opportunities for people. BURC owns the property of Portview and has set up BDA to manage and maintain this asset.
The Team
Portview's staff manage the centre day to day, supported by a Board of Directors who bring experience from business, regeneration and the local community.
